I began leading classes for CoachInc:
Before coaching professionally:
After many years as a teacher in the Ontario school system,I took on the role of full-time mom. As my children grew older, my involvement in public education volunteer projects increased. I realized how many under-funded but integral projects could benefit from a higher level approach. A friend suggested I explore coaching as possible way to increase my ability to help, and since enrolling in Coach U in 2004, I havenít looked back!
My coaching practice:
My practice includes clients from a wide variety of backgrounds at all levels of professional seniority and has a designed focus on increasing personal development, managing career development and honing leadership skills. I believe an intuitive and cohesive approach works best to insure my clients are best equipped to assess and then make choices that will be of most benefit to their continued growth and well-being. ďIt is our choices that show who we truly are, far more than our abilities.Ē
Helping people realize that there is continuous value in what we do and who we are speaks loudly to me, and Guiding Principle #3 (that contribution based on purpose generates true fulfillment) is an important lesson for each of us. By being intentional about choosing to always give our best, a ripple effect is created in those with whom we interact and work, and I strive to emphasize the joy found in that concept.
The most unique quality of my leadership:
Learning should be sometimes challenging and sometimes uncomfortable, but always fun. It is not a solo process, and ideally happens in a collaborative environment where the different strengths of each student create a more robust awareness for everyone. As a leader, I identify and encourage participation at this level, and believe the learning which results is richer and more valuable for all of us.
What I expect from the coaches on my calls:
Come to the calls prepared to share, learn, question and be challenged. Even if the material hasnít had time to sink in, your contribution is valuable because your perspective is unique and each of us grow from the benefit of the collaboration. It may not always easy to join in the conversation, but if you have a point, make it.
My favorite benefit from leading classes:
From the facilitation perspective, it is always thrilling to be a part of the ďahaĒ moments our coaches have as they work through coaching dynamics. Each new discovery is a learning process for everyone who witnesses it, including me. From a more selfish perspective, learning something new in each and every class from everyone who participates is absolutely amazing. Iím so lucky to do this for a living!
Feedback from students:
"Ann had a tremendous phone voice, warmth and presence. Particularly good at rephrasing and feeding back "I heard you say...." and was genuine in her appreciation for all student comments. Her engagement with the students even led me to feel I knew them better as classmates. It was a wonderful class. A super role model."
